KAPAP ( Krav Panim el Panim ) Face to Face Combat.
KAPAP was the original Israeli Martial Art. It was from KAPAP that Krav Maga and the modern Israeli systems taught today were born. There are several other names used for Israeli Martial Arts. KAPAP, included all of the various fighting techniques required by a soldier in the battlefield. Soldiers trained in hand to hand combat (krav maga), stick fighting using short and long sticks, live and edged weapons. Kapap became an integral part of the training and continues to this day in elite units.
Krav Maga is a generalized term, and when you look it up in the dictionary in Israel, it will say that Krav Maga is a hand-to-hand fighting system based on close quarters combat. Maga meaning close, and Krav meaning battle.Krav Maga dates back to only the 1930's. It was first brought to the Bratislava by founder Imi Lichtenfeld in order to help the Jewish community there protect themselves from Nazi armed forces.
All experts in Krav Maga lived in Israel and trained under the Israeli Krav Maga Association prior to 1980. However, in 1981 a group of six Krav Maga instructors brought their system to America. Krav Maga is the official system of self defense utilized by the Israeli Defense Forces. It is also taught to the Israeli police. The goal of a Krav practitioner ir to avoid harm and neutralize attackers by any means necessary.
